Or... permanent retirement at least.
I'm returning to good old fashioned journaling for now. I'll leave this blog up for posterity sake, and any future desires to see what I was up to during my highschool/college years.
So long and thanks for all the fish!

I'm Still Alive
Contrary to popular belief, I haven't actually fallen off of the planet.
I've come to the realization that my life has ended up in a post-college rut. I'm trying to fix that. The first thing on the list is to get healthy. It's a sensitive issue for me, so I won't be going into it, but I'll just say that my life is sort of in chaos and I hope this one small change will help and then I can move on to other changes.
Last week I was at my brother Ryan's house doing some dog/cat watching while he, Jeff and some other people were at GenCon. It was a slow week, but I was paid for doing it and now I might go buy myself a new TV or a new computer monitor. Maybe.
In other news, the past couple of weeks I have spent watching all 7 seasons of 24, since I missed the 1st season when it actually aired on TV and then I never got caught up. I'm sad that this show has not been in my life for the past 8 years. It is probably my favorite TV show ever, and I can't believe I have to wait until January before I can watch more. If you haven't seen this show, you should go and watch it.
And finally, I have decided to finally and officially stop playing WoW. I might start again if they come out with a new expansion pack, but I've got two 80s and doing the same quests and raids seems a bit redundant when I could be using that time to do real-life and more fulfilling activities. This is a change consistent with my new plan to kick start my life.
Other than these things, nothing much is going on with me. Hopefully I'll have more exciting things to talk about in the near future. Until then, keep it real.

Quack Quack Quack Quack Quack
I started a guild on WoW (b/c of lack of bank space, it was just more convenient). I amuse myself. It's called "The Mighty Ducks" and the rank system for members is as follows, from lowest to highest:
Figure Skater (sorry Annika lol)
Rookie
Goldberg
Team Captain
Emilio Estevez
I'm the only one hwo gets Emilio Estevez, as Guild Master. This amuses me greatly.
Jobs = non existant... so... I'm... thinking of taking the GRE sometime in the next few months... maybe. And... maybe... going to grad school. Applying for both English and Psychology and then seeing where I go from there. Maybe.
Maybe.
The only thing I'm worried about is the math portion, since I haven't really had math since high school... so I'm trying to brush up on my algebra and stuff, which I was never really all that good at in the first place. We'll see. I have until December 1 to apply for next fall (2010)... and... we'll see.

The Return of The Entry Game
I just stumbled on this little gem in my archives, from 7/14/04, an entry in which I describe a couple pairs of goggles I purchased with my mom, and then end the entry with this:
"Edit later I just realized that Goggle Goggle Goggle, looks an aweful lot like Google Google Google, but trust me, it's Goggle Goggle Goggle, and not Google Goolge Google. Of course, you could always combine them, and get Goggle Google Goggle Google Goggle Google.
Goggle"
Ah yes.
Also, I found another horrible entry from my high school days, and once again, I need to apologize to anyone who reads this and make sure they know that my high school stuff had some issues and that I don't really hate anyone anymore, despite what my high school self may have said.
The job search has plateaued I think. I can't find any new positions to apply for, and I still have only heard back from one of the companies I applied to, and it was a rejection reply. So, that's where I am right now. I'm feeling down about my job search, and I'm worried I'm going to become one of *those* people. You know the ones. The ones who are jobless, living at home, and who spend 90% of their time raiding in World of Warcraft. I'm 3-3 right now... hopefully something will change in my life soon so that it doesn't become a habit.

You Don't Need to Twist My Arm
Hey. So. Life. Yeah.
The job search is very frustrating. The publishing industry is basically floundering, so I'm forced to send out my resumes and cover letters to different jobs asking for slightly different qualifications. And I know that I don't always meet every. single. qualification. but I figure it's worth to apply anyway. But it's still disheartening when they point out that they would really like someone who is slightly more qualified than you for their position when they send you their rejection letter.
Le sigh.
I sent out a few more applications yesterday. I've got two of them sitting on my desk that I may or may not send out. I think I might take a few days off from the job search to get some air. Hopefully more of them will get back to me soon so I can decide where to go from here, whether I should enlist the help of a career service or not.
So that's what's going on in my life right now. It's rainy and cold today. I'm happy because it's kind of washing off my car. I think I might get out there with a bucket and a rag when it's warmer and really scrub it down once most of the dirt is washed off by the rain.

Got Talent Diatribe
So, Britain's Got Talent had the final for its third season this past Saturday and it was amazing. Especially after this season, I found myself wondering (again) why Britain's Got Talent is consistently more entertaining to watch than its American Counterpart (even though America's Got Talent actually aired first and is about to enter its fourth season). I decided to make a list of things that America's Got Talent lacks, to its own detriment.
1. Ant and Dec. Ok. So. What is not to love about these two? They are cute and funny. And they've done the whole 90s music scene thing as the singing duo "PJ and Duncan". Priceless. Words cannot express how much I love these two, and when you compare it to Regis Philbin and Jerry Springer (who have hosted America's Got Talent for Season 1 and Seasons 2 and 3 respectively), there's really no contest on the entertainment value. There's a new host this season for America's Got Talent, and hopefully he'll be cute and funny!
2. Steven Mulhern and Britain's Got More Talent. The great thing about Britain's Got Talent is that they have a completely separate show that goes behind the scenes to show us how BGT works, and it's hosted by Steven Mulhern. Steven, like Ant and Dec, is also cute and funny. Plus, as an added bonus, he's a magician! More Talent is exciting to watch, there's funny vignettes and other happenings. Ant and Dec have a funny quiz/gameshow segment, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden show off their talents, and we get to see more auditions. During the semi finals there's celebrity panels and more funny vignettes and this season a competition to see who could eat the most ferrero rocher chocolates in one minute (the world record is 7). Because America doesn't have this part of the Got Talent franchise, we miss out on all of these wonderfully entertaining things.
3. British Humor. America's Got Talent is all about seeing the auditions, then on to the semi-finals and finals. I understand that a large portion of the American public doesn't get British humor, but I feel that it makes the show, and I really miss it in the American version. It could be because of the less than funny hosts of the past few seasons, and hopefully this season will be more funny with its new host. Unfortunately, America never gets the translation right when adopting funny British shows to American TV. For example, the Office is great, but it's nothing like the British one. I might prefer the American version, but all the same, it is still radically different from its parent show.
4. Simon Cowell. Instead we have Piers Morgan. Ok, granted, on BGT he's actually kind of nice and he doesn't make the kiddies cry, but in America, Piers is just a cheap knockoff of Simon. If you're going to have a "mean" British judge, you might as well have THE "mean" British judge, and not someone who, for whatever reason, just plays the part.
5. A panel that consists solely of citizens of that nation. BGT has 3 judges, all of whom are British citizens. America's Got Talent has 3 judges, one of whom is actually American. Don't get me wrong, I love Sharon Osborne to death, but it seems a little irksome to me that the judges are 2/3 non-American for America's Got Talent, since they pick all of the semi-finalists. We can keep Sharon, since I love her, but let's get rid of Piers for an equally "mean" American judge. We can keep the Hoff too, since I have to like him because popular culture likes him :)
6. A Queen. No not that kind of Queen, I mean the royal sort of Queen. BGT contestants win the chance to perform in front of the Queen! It could just be me, but the reward for BGT seems more personable than ooh, hey, here's $1 million and a performance in Las Vegas. This is just further proof that Americans love money too much. And now that Bush is gone, I'd think that performing for President Obama would be a fairly good compromise, since we don't have a royal family. I'd think that would be a great privilege and incentive to enter and win America's Got Talent!
7. A Royal Variety Show. Along the same lines as #6, contestants of BGT get to perform in the Royal Variety Show, which is a huge, huge, huge honor for performing artists. We should have a national Variety show in America. Televise that shit and I'd watch it! We need more things that connect us as a nation, and what better way than a variety show performed for the President. I think American's might go for that, but then again, maybe that's just me.
Anyway, this is just a short list of things that I think America's Got Talent needs in order to make it even better. That being said, I still enjoy watching America's Got Talent, and I'll be watching when the fourth season premieres in July.
If you've actually managed to get through this post, I applaud you! I'm congratulating the dance group Diversity that won BGT, and I'm hoping that this season of America's Got Talent shapes up to be entertaining and full of great talent!

In East Minneapolis, Born and Raised, on the Playground is Where I Spent Most of My Days
Ok, East St. Paul, but who's looking at specifics?
What's new?
Well. I have started to get out some cover letters and resumes. One sent to RCRI where I'd be doing data entry things, but it would have decent benefits and fairly good security. I also sent one out to Graywolf Press for an editorial assistant position. I've also got two internships I'm looking at, but one I have to mail in via snail mail and I haven't printed it yet, and the other I need recommendations that I'm still waiting to get back. If all else fails, I might just hop into Barnes and Noble and hand in an application there. So, that's what I've been doing all day, since around 2pm, and probably what I'll be doing for the rest of the week.
I'm annoyed at the application process, which is really time consuming, but I'm excited to begin a fun career and to meet new people. Well, hopefully, assuming I didn't completely botch my cover letters and resumes, and funnily enough, a one-page book report.
In other news, I got a Kindle as a graduation gift from my brother Ryan. It's pretty sweet. I ordered a protective booklet thing so that I can start bringing it with me places without worrying too much about breaking it. I don't have the money to buy any books for it right now, but there's a fairly large number of free books on Amazon, so I've got a few things to read on it. My current reading list is A Christmas Carol and some other Charles Dickens stories, A collection of Edgar Allen Poe poems, Dracula, Frankenstein, a couple of George Orwell novels, and Songs of Innocence and Songs of experience by William Blake, to name a few. I love getting free things. I have also canceled my World of Warcraft account, so I should have at least $12 a month now to spend on books and other things, so yay.
I wish I had a magic wand that I could wave that would give me a stable and really fun job that makes good money, has good benefits and fun coworkers, and that has great vacation days without all the hubbub of the application and interviewing process. But alas, real life does not work that way. Actually, come to think of it, I wish that Dunder Mifflin was a real place and that I could just work in The Office all day and have dance parties with Michael. Yes, I DO realize that I do not live in a fantasy world, but one can always hope... right?
I'm excited for the Zoo on Monday, everyone who could possibly make it should totally go.
